The new fourth edition of Fundamentals of Geomorphology continues to provide a comprehensive introduction to the subject by discussing the latest developments in the field, as well as covering the basics of Earth surface forms and processes. The revised edition has an improved logically cohesive structure, added recent material on Quaternary environments and landscapes, landscape evolution and tectonics, as well as updated information in fast-changing areas such as the application of dating techniques, digital terrain modelling, historical contingency, preglacial landforms, neocatastrophism, and biogeomorphology. The book begins with a consideration of the nature of geomorphology, process and form, history, and geomorphic systems, and moves on to discuss:. Featuring over illustrations, diagrams, and tables, Fundamentals of Geomorphology provides a stimulating and innovative perspective on the key topics and debates within the field of geomorphology. Written in an accessible and lively manner, and providing guides to further reading, chapter summaries, and an extensive glossary of key terms, this is an indispensable undergraduate level textbook for students of physical geography. It is the aim of this Fundamentals of Physical Geography Series to provide, in five volumes, the fundamental nature of the physical processes that act on or just above the surface of the earth.
The topics are treated in sufficient breadth and depth to provide the coverage expected in a Fundamentals series. Each volume leads into the topic by outlining the approach adopted.
This is important because there may be several ways of approaching individual topics.
Although each volume is complete in itself, there are many explicit and implicit references to the topics covered in the other volumes. Thus, the five volumes together provide a comprehensive insight into the totality that is Physical Geography.
The flexibility provided by separate volumes has been designed to meet the demand created by the variety of courses currently operating in higher education institutions.
This is also the case with many Advanced Level syllabuses. Thus students and teachers are being frustrated increasingly by lack of suitable books and are having to recommend texts of which only a small part might be relevant to their needs.

Huggett updates what has become the best available text for introductory undergraduate courses in Geomorphology. It is a modern, comprehensive, wide-ranging, and well-illustrated treatment, which is particularly strong on explaining important concepts.
The style of the book is engaging and the author successfully conveys a freshness and enthusiasm for the subject, combining well-known topics with new ones, from etchplains to LiDAR, and plate tectonics to human impacts on the landscape.
