It's only available as a PDF through the Sleep Sense website it's not a book , but I think it will work well for me in conjunction with some of the things I've picked up from the other books I've read. The unfortunate reality of sleep training is that it will take some crying definitely from the baby and possibly from the mom , but for me it was worth it. By no means did I just make my baby "cry it out," and that is not what this book teaches. But there was about a week of rough nights with crying and then suddenly, it just clicked and now I put my daughter into her crib AWAKE, and she falls asleep on her own, and sleeps for hours.
We were both on edge after those 6 months. Not necessarily towards each other, but just in general. Plus the exhaustion I was just so irritated all the time. It caught up.
I started to really feel it and really feel it catching up to me. I get a little emotional talking about this because It was an ending of special bonding together as well. I just knew it was time to move on, and time to get some sleep for the both of us!
As I was reading, I just started sobbing and sobbing.
Because I felt so sad that I had to do what it was telling me to do. I felt like an awful mom.
I felt like my career was going down the drain. I will never ever forget that moment. It really brings back so many emotions that were flowing over me that day.
It says to give them a routine every night. The goal is NOT to get them to cry, it has nothing to do with crying. The idea is to get them to self soothe.
The kid is there just crying and crying. BUT now that I understand it better it makes sense. We all need to learn to calm ourselves down and fall asleep. We as adults have a bedtime routine as well. Babies need to learn how to fall asleep on their own and we must teach them.
I give him his blanket that he loves to help sooth him and its known as a sleep prop. So when you put them in their crib they grab their blanket as comfort and know its bedtime. They tell you NOT to feed them to sleep, but I wanted to try something of my own in the mix.
You will get a feel for what works for your baby. AND the good news was is he stayed asleep for 2 hours. I was in complete shock. The tricky part came bedtime. Since he got up a least 3 times a night to eat AND he co-slept. But always talk to your doctor before anything.
Back to that first night. He woke up at 11pm.. Then went back to sleep was in shock then woke up at Naps went well too. It only kept getting better, and by a week later he was solid with bedtime and naps.

Two days before my son turned 9 months old, I was at my wits end and felt like I was on the verge of a breakdown. I had not had more than 4 hours straight of sleep in a year, and was truly exhausted. It affected my home life, my relationships with friends, and especially the quality of my work at my job.
My son had never slept more than 5 or 6 hours straight, but at 6 months old he began to wake up every hours. Well, he is now 9 months old. He woke up one time, cried for about 30 seconds, and was back asleep before I could even open my eyes to check the time. By night 3, he was sleeping 9 hours, which was amazing to me!
