Most questions also have full-color pictures that will allow practice for microscope part of the exam. For people who absolutely hate reading long textbooks or just want to find an answer to a quick question, this is a much better book than the bible itself.
Its content is the bread and butter of the larger textbook version, and requires much less time to read through before an exam. His audio AND book are excellent. The pictures in the book and diagrams are extremely useful. FA: This is a great resource.
I used it as a supplement throughout the school year as well. It has great mnemonics and summarizes concepts well. I didn't like the lack of photos and the organization. My best advice is to work hard during your first and second years. I assure you it will pay off. If we had a pathology or medicine test over cardiology, I would study the corresponding sections in Goljan and FA along with my classnotes.
I wish you all the best of luck. It contains invaluable information for students taking the exam, and everyone should read it before they start studying for the exam. I used the patient note provided in this file as my standardized note for every patient, and memorized it. I did that two times in the one week that I had to study for it, practiced writing the patient notes on paper, and highlighted things that I forgot to ask.
I did not practice with friends, but I would recommend doing so if you can find someone who is willing to be a SP for you. My advice: 1. Remember a standard patient note so that you can type it out fast in the time allotted, and still make modifications if you need to.
Make sure you practice typing the note at home too. Just type everything with the separation of a space. It took me the second patient note to realize that. Keep focused. I lost that towards the end, and forgot to ask an entire FH and SH for one case. I did everything I can think of to prepare for the exam, even so, I felt horrible during and after the exam. Talking to other students that day, they felt the same way. There will always be questions that you will forget to ask, and there is no way to ask ALL the right questions and do a PE in 15 minutes.
It is a pass-fail exam, so you can still do just okay and pass.
Rumors: 1: only 10 out of the 12 are graded. So two are "experimental" cases. I'm not sure if that is true, and I really hope it's not, cause I think it's better if we average than pick random So it's luck who we get.
